In our state legislature there is a bill to change the ccw law. In Wyoming one will not need a permit if over the age of 21 to carry concield(spelling), however one can still obtain a permit to travel to other states, I sure hope this passes because I really leave the state I have no family else where so this would be ideal for a good majorty of us Wyomingites.

This is good news. I wish Arkansas would jump on this bandwagon as well.

I'd have to say this is pretty unbelieveable. My wife and I both have Wyoming CFP'S..Theres way to many loose cannons around these parts to be drunken pistol packin rednecks.I strongly disagree, its a bit of an honor to have a permit to carry and conceile..Call me cocky, but it shows good criminal record and for the most part smarts and integrity in an individual.
I'm not for all goverment by any means, but if a deputy runs a check, they should have the right to know if you may be packing when approached for there own saftey..Just another issue of human rights.

The 'anyone can carry' laws have not had any problems in Vermont, I believe, for quite a while. Nor have there been any problems in Alaska since their recent legislation.

So - why can't the rest of us handle this?

Any police office worth 2 cents should treat any single person they walk up to, as potentially being armed. If they don't, they won't be police officers long.

The criminals who carry are going to do it with out a ccw anyway so really all this law will do is make it easyier on us moral up right citizens, who will tell an officer anyway.

Alaska has a similar law, where no CCW is needed. However, you must inform a LEO you are carrying if approached.

I canj just see this now "Hey, Cop, I've got a gun!"

Its incredibly easy to get a CCP here, if you can buy a gun legally, you can get one, with no discretion.

Just a little advise before you make the move:

1. Be prepared to earn a lot less money here than in Illinois, so it would be a good idea to secure a job before you move.

2. Make sure you have a place to live before you move or have a friend or relatives to stay with until you find your own place.

3. Expect to find people who will look you in the eye and greet you honestly.

4. And don't EVER say, "That's not how we did things in Illinois."

wyonative,

Good advise.

Been to WY several times visiting relatives. Have several forum friends there.
Any income I make in WY will be better what I haven't made here.
All the rest of your suggestions have been and are being considered and worked on.

Oh, as for not saying, "That not the way we did it in IL", I spent over 40 years living in AZ. Only moved back here recently due to family reasons. (Wrong decision  ) I can't stand this place, no matter how they do it. This place sucks like a Hoover..........
I'm quite aware of how the people in WY act, another reason I want to go there.

Why do feel I'm defending my choice here  ?

Joe,

It wasn't my intention to put anyone on the defensive, and you certainly don't need to defend your choice to me.

Good luck in your move.

Jeff,

OK I got cha. But after re-reading my post I think I was reacting to my own words. Kinda musing over what I said. I guess I'm just cranky.
Anyway thanks for the good luck, I need it.

Yup, that was beautiful. It's frustrating at times being a Cowboy fan, but what choice do I have but to love 'em. It's the only 4 year school in the state.

There are a few more Wyomingites here too! I live in Sweetwater county, guess where, and you are absolutely right about getting a job and housing before you move. Oilfield jobs don't pay much per hour but they give you lots of hours! And I agree with all the other comments on concealed carry- the criminals don't care so everybody might as well carry concealed so they can shoot back.

I think all the county sheriffs and police chiefs in the state were against it. Too bad, but I think they felt that this legislation would put their officers more at risk than they already are.

Yesterday was last day a bill could be introduced. It made it out of commity passing 7-2 but never got read in the house. They either ran out of time or the chairmen didn't like it maybe next time.

HOLLYWOOD COPS!

Among the various professions in the world, among the safest is law enforcement. Turn off your T.V. for a few days, and get real.

A woman is far more likely to die in childbirth than a law enforcement officer is likely to die at the hands of a criminal offender.

I for one think this trend is good. I personally don't feel much need to carry concealed in Wyoming, as having a gun available in a vehicle, or openly carried is OK here. Part of my reasoning for not having aquired a CCW is that I feel the right, as guaranteed by the constition, is to own and carry firearms, no mention of open or concealed carry. I don't feel it is proper to require a PERMIT to engage in a constitutionally guaranteed RIGHT. Simply put, a PERMIT to own or carry firearms is an infringement of the right to own and carry. It then becomes a priviledge. Freedom is dangerous and messy in some ways, but to try to micro-manage our freedom can become restrictions on our freedom. we still have the best system going on earth.
