I am new to hunting and hope to start with deer season this year. I'ver been scouting some areas for activity and practicing often with my .357 mag Rossi 92 carbine so far.

Do I have to hunt from a stand everywhere in the state? What are some important rifle, shotgun, handgun regulations?

Are there any tips you veterans can give a newbie regarding hunting in NC?

Patrick - I would start here http://www.wildlife.state.nc.us/fs_index_04_hunting.htm looks lik NC has a nice DNR page with plenty of regulations for you to read through :)

I'd be suprised to see a state that allows only treestand hunting - but stranger things have happened!

Might want to sign up for a Hunters Safety class in your area. Lot's of guys will say "I know how to shoot a gun" but the class is more than that and the best part really is that you get to ask alot of questions of the instructor abot local areas, hot spots, and regulations.
