Seems like the Savage mod. 40 is now only available in 22 Hornet but with the accu-trigger, but a Canadian site have it in 223 and i want to know if someone know about this rifle (accuracy etc..) because i'm not sure wich one to buy between mod. 40 and H&R Ultra Varmint in 223. Fist choice was the 12 FV but only available in 204 Ruger(on the site i've talk earlier)and 200$ more (other place have it in 223 but 100$ more than the other place)
To resume,
1- 12 FV=trouble to find one in Canada and where they have it, to expensive or to much time to wait to have it.
2- Mod. 40=nobody seem to have it or try it and finally,
3- H&R Ultra Varmint=people who have it seem to have trouble with it (extracting problems)
Please help me make a choice!
Thanks!!

I was reading recently on the forum at www.savageshooters.com that the Model 40 won't actually be in the stores until May 2005. It has been reviewed in some US magazines though I don't remember which. Savage have a great reputation for accuracy and the Accu-trigger is also getting good reviews. I've just taken delivery of a 12FVSS in 22-250 but haven't fired it yet (still waiting for rings/bases). The Accu-trigger measured a consistent 1025g out of the box (Lyman electronic trigger gauge) and seems very crisp.
Good Luck

Don't know about the Model 40. With all the PR by the gun writers and the manufacturer you would think its flooding the dealers shelves which couldn't be farther from the truth. I so put off by the two year lead time on the PR works, that I'm considering boycoting the manufactures that practice this foul and absurbed way of generating sales.
I collect 22 Hornets and have been waiting for the Model 40 for two years now. You can imagine my suprise when my dealer calls me and asks if I want a Model 93 in 22 Hornet. Never knew they were making it on that model, but told him yes. Several days later I'm the proud owner of a Model 93 alia Model 40 22 Hornet. It appears to this person that the only difference between the two is a laminated stock, accura-trigger and stainless steel for the metal. And the retail is close to $100 less than the Model 40.
If thats the case I do believe Savage just humped the pooch as I have no intention of buying both. Appears to be well made and will have shoot it for real information on its accuracy. Comes with no sights but does have the scope bases installed for Weaver rings.
