I would like to get a 1895 with the 22 inch barrel, but all i can find is the guide gun with the 18 1/2 inch barrel. So my Qustion is dose the ect 3 1/2 inchs make a diffrence?
I'd say that it makes a difference, but not enough to matter. You would have a little longer sight plane with the 1895, but if you plan to use a scope that would be a moot point. The velocity gained would be minimal. Straight cartridges seem to give up less velocity per inch of barrel than do large capacity bottleneck cases. I have had a 1895 in the past and currently have a 1895G. I prefer the latter.

Not really much difference ballistically speaking, you might see a loss of about 100 fps at most. You will find a difference in the handling however. The guide gun will be lighter in the muzzle which some think is quicker to mount. Others prefer the extra weight and the pistol grip model (I think it's more comfortable). The guide gun may have a very slight accuracy advantage from what I hear, but who's going to notice in a hunting environment? Go with the one that feels most comfortable to you if you can get you hands on them both. If not, get the one that's available and keep looking for the other.

I prefer the guide gun over the 1895. I live in the northwest and really enjoy the handling and shorter length. It is a real thumper and accurate for me out to about 130yds. I guess it comes down to what your preferred style is? If you are moving through heavy timber or brush, i would suggest the guidegun. In any case you have chosen very nicely!!!

I had the guide model. Now I have a SS model the one with the 22in barrel. I like it better for three reasons. Longer sight radius, no ports[mine had them], and pistol grip. the staight grip made the lever BITE if you kept your hand inside it.Other than that good gun. I do wish they would thin down the fore grip, like a winchester.

Are you going to handload or use factory ammo?
I have the Guide Gun and it is my favorite gun to shoot. It's quick, accurate, makes a lot of noise and kicks a great deal with my handloads.

I don't know if I can add anything to this that hasn't been said , I like the short barrel Myself. I felt kinda bad that the post titled 1895 "or" 1895G was on it's third page already and your post 1895 "vs" 1895G was falling by the wayside without as much action . Maybe slingshottting it back up to the top will get some of those fellas to chime in on your post? Hope this helps.
O.K. the other post started almost a year ago (oops!) but surely we can show carner some love and reply , better than making him read old posts to get imput right , more personable for sure.

Depending on the load it will likely be between and 60 and 80 fps. No animal will know the difference and the difference in trajectory will be negligible. With iron sights the longer barrel offers a slightly longer sighting plane which may improve accuracy, but the barrel is stiffer with the shorter barrel which has exhibited greater accuracy in some rifles.

The guide gun is definately nice for handling and carrying. There is no other gun I'd rather have with me in the woods of northern michigan. The one thing I'd suggest is to check for fit before buying. If you can close your eyes, hoist the rifle to shooting position, open your eyes again and be close to the intended target...that is being on sight with the iron sights...then it will be a quick shooter for you. If the fit isnt perfect you can work with it until it's an extension of the body. My g fits perfectly and that adds to the package. I started out shooting the SS and had a ball with it. Now after owning the guide gun there is nothing I'd trade for it. Well, may a ferrari.
The gun is very quick (with practice), light, powerful and accurate...what more could you want? If you like the SS you really cant go wrong there, either.
