I've had my BAR 270 for about 25 years, killed about 70 deer and antelope with it, and pretty much wore it out. The bolt even had to be repaired once. I've been very happy with it. Its the deer killinest machine I've ever had. It is still very accurate and outdoes half of my bolt actions. It is near minute of angle with several bullets and loads. Loads are always far below (100-200 fps) the published average and I can't get the Barnes x-bullets to shoot in it worth a darn. I even called the Barnes people about it and they said they also owned bARs that did not perform well with x-bullets. I've used mostly 130 grain Nosler Ballistic Tips, but I have lately settled on 150 grain Hornady interlocks, partly because I've relegated it to woods hunting. No more plains hunting for the BAR (low velocities).
Two days ago, I ordered another one in 30-06. I ordered the "safari" model, which still has the all-steel receiver. Its not the redesignned one like you got (and I think with alloy receiver?)
I hope my new one (and your new one) performs as well as my old one. Good luck! :)

Thank you very much for the great reply boreal. That's the kind of information i was looking for!any person that hunted with a BAR for 25 years, there opinion is respected.I heard from lots and lots of people that the BARNES-X just is not accurate! my second choice is the swift scrocco bonded,it's a bonded ballistic tip with a SUPER HIGH B.C.
thanks again

Try the barnes thriple shocks they have been very accurate in my experience. I have talked several others whom mirror my experience with the tsx's accuracy. NO fowling >Iam am shooting them in 3 different rifles and they all shooting .5moa or less

To be more clear, I shoot x-bullets, coated x-bullets, and triple shocks in several of my rifles, and find them as accurate as most other hunting bullets. Its just the BAR that doesn't like them. As I said, the people at Barnes were having the same problems with their BARs. And lack of accuracy was probably just related to the real problems we were having. It was more about not being able to get good velocity without huge pressure problems, like getting pierced primers and other high pressure signs and still being 300 fps below published velocities, not being able to even get to the medium published powder weight and getting nasty pressure signs. Autoloaders are sometimes real finicky to load for anyway, and the x-bullets added to the problem for me.
You should try the factory x-bullet loads to satisfy yourself. Maybe they will work fine. Just remember that the new "high energy" and many other specialty loads are not to be used in a BAR. At 270 velocities, standard hunting bullets are all you need anyway for deer-sized game. For an all-around hunting bullet, I recommend a good 140 grain bullet like a Nosler Partition or one of the bonded bullets.
Hey, my Norton antivirus program just notified me that it has blocked an intrusion attempt by a trojan horse. This is the only program I have open right now. I'm outta here.
Good luck Ultra!

YOu won't be dissapointed in your purchase. I have a BAR MK II Safari with the BOSS in 270. This is a wonderfull deer rifle and has always done a woderfull job for me. In MY gun (YMMV) 130gr Balistic tips loaded by Georgia Arms, shot most accurately and killed many a deer. I have swapped to Speer 130gr. Grand Slams, again loaded by Georgia Arms, due to my hunting conditions changeing, (i now hunt mostly woods with 100yd and less shots). You won't find a more accurate autoloader, nor one that is more durable. The only negative thing I could ever say about it is its a little heavy if your going to be carring it all day on a hunt. If you do mostly treestand/shooting house hunting you'll probably never notice it.
