A Browning and a BSA are two different manufacturers. They never cooperated in building a common firearm.

The .222 Rem (or, Triple Duce as known in the benchrest/varmit circles) is noted for it's inherent accuracy. Unfortunately, it has fallen by the wayside to more common cartridges, such as the .223 Rem and the 22-250. Interestingly, the new wonder cartridge, the .204 Ruger is based on the .222 Rem Mag case.

The .223 Rem is a popular cartridge with ammunition readily available. the .222 is very hard to find these days, with reloading the best option. Brass can still be found when the factories make special runs of it.

The BSA (Birmingham Small Arms) is a well made action. Being a bolt gun, a little hard to campare to the top-break action H&R.

The BSA is a better buy if it's in very good shape and accurate. Availability of the .222 depends on your location, as it's still easy to find around here. Handloading is still the best way to go. The .223 has more loads available, but you only need one accurate 55 grain load for your varmint shooting, from sparrows to coyotes. Military surplus hard point (full metal jacket) is cheap, but not suitable for varmints. Use an expanding soft-point bullets for varmints. From what I hear, most of the surplus .223 ammunition available in Canada is IVI (Industries Valcartier Industries) lots that didn't meet military accuracy standards. I don't see much of the cheaper but good American ammunition like UMC or American Eagle.

BTW, you methioned a "gun specialist" in another post, and you weren't sure if that was the right English word. Gunsmith is the word for one who repairs guns.

Bye

Buy the BSA. It's a lot more gun for the money. the 222 is an excellent cartridge. You can always have it recahmbered down the road for the 223 if you want.

I shot bench rest with a 222 for several years and found the accuracy excellent. till the 22 ppc came along it was unbeatable.

I reccomend you get into reloading. You can set up in a small space and shoot a lot more for the same money. Look into the Lee aniversery kit. With a set of dies you can get into reloading for less than a hundred dollars.

Lots of folks here will help you through getting started. Biggest thing you got to fear is the addiction. Once you get going it's really hard to stop.

If you do get into it get a set of Lee delux reloading dies. They come with both the full length resizer and the collet neck sizing die. The neck sizing die gives you lots of reloads per case and better accuracy.

Good luck for which ever rifle you get and good shooting.
