HK all the way (with my avatar that statement is obligatory). Unlike the Glock, the USP is made for the .40 S&W from the ground up, not a converted 9mm. Also unlike the Glock, the HK has a fully supported chamber in case of a cartridge overload. Because of the Glock not having a fully supported chamber, if an overload occurs you are more likely to see the case head rupture than you are with an HK. Of course in both pistols, if the case head does rupture you are likely to see the frame split down the grip but this is a good thing. It keeps the gun from coming apart in your hands and you losing fingers. Both are fine guns so don't let anyone tell you a Glock is a POS, it is not. But IMHO the HK is better (it had better be at sometimes close to twice the price). Big down for HK, magazine prices. Mags will cost you double what they run for a Glock.
Brand loyalty aside, handle both and see which one fits you better. Shoot both and see which one you shoot better with. The gun that fits you the best is the gun you should get, I don't care if it has HK, Glock, or SIG on it. All are excellent pistols.

This is a hard one for me. Just looks ta my screen name. H&K makes a fine set of firearms. Their G3 rifles and also their USP pistols are good products. If you do decide a Glock. Get the Glock 23C, it has a 13rd magazine, compensator, and it just screams good quality pistol. Also it has a universal light/laser mount. So if you ever want to get those pretty toys for it like the SureFire M3 Tactical light. You can. What ever your choice is, you won't go wrong. Both the Glock 23 and H&K USP are a fine pistol. And that .40S&W cartridge is a fine round.

Get whatever you like best. It has to fit you and not someone else. Personally, I prefer HK. They fit my hands better.
Your mileage my differ.

He loves it. It was too big for my hand to shoot well, but he is dead on with it! Traded my Glock 17 for it and it was a great swap!
The older I get, the more I go back to revolvers

I like the HK over the Glock, but you could probably get a nice leather holster (Galco) and a case of range blaster ammo for the cost of the HK. Spare magazines are less expensive for the Glock, also. HK has a neat package this year with a USP40C in either OD Green/Grey(Like the SL-8)/or in Desert tan. I saw the OD green one earlier this week at a local gunshop. Comes with a little tac case (Different than the big zippered HK cases) and a tac light for the rail.
I still like the HK but I'm a huge fan of the 45ACP not the 40, and I would probably get the HK USP 45C in the OD green unless I owned an SL-8. I ordered a Kimber Raptor Pro last month (two month back order) and just bought a Kimber Tactical last weekend.

I have owned both and still have the Glock 23.
I say the glock 23. Having handled and fired both, I like the Glock a lot better. HK's are bulky, and frankly ugly. The grips are almost like holding onto a Desert Eagle .50 . I done a polish job on my cousin's USP .45 just the other day. I don't like those guns at all.

I have had both and sold both. My issue with the glock was the grip. I now carry a G19 after having the grip recontoured and I think it, or the g23, is the ideal carry gun. The HK grip fit my hand well, but I absolutely hated the trigger, and the feel of the gun was that of a brick balanced on a blade of grass. Both are quality guns (with an edge to HK).
