The folks at Speer must have a very paranoid lawyer on retainer , the .444 Marlin cartridge has a Saami rating of 44,000 cup for its factory loadings and we haven't heard of too many of Marlin's chambered guns in that blowing up(?).

The Garrett 540g cartridge is actually only recomended for use in Marlins - No other guns - at least from their website. All of the pictures and specs on thier website seem to show only factory guns.

also this might sound like a stupid question but 45-70 and 45-70goverment are the same thing right.

Yup. There's a bunch of names for the same thing, gets confusing at times....

Right. The .45-70 was designed by the U.S. Army, so the "Government" name. There are some tricky ones out there, so don't assume too much. The .40-60 Marlin and the .40-65 Winchester are the same cartridge, but the .40-60 Winchester is different.

I have the same rifle, and just have to ask why on earth you would want to punish your ears and shoulder by fireing that 540grainer?????

I shoot some hot 405's out of my ported SS/GG....all I can say is WOW

what the heck do you plan on shootin' with that?

We keep a 1895GS at the cabin loaded with 540 Garrett's. Just because we have seen what a brown bear can do. If the situation arrives, a little extra kick WONT be noticed.

I do have to admit that the 540's are a bit potent. Better to be over gunned than under gunned.
