I have the chance to come across a stainless Vaquero in 45 colt for a Very, Very good price.
Knowing that the Vaquero is one of those guns that you have to regulate the load/bullet ratio to the gun/sights is making me kind of standoff-ish about purchasing it.
I got rid of my Blackhawk because of the single action, but without going into the price, it's hard to pass up.
My question is this;
Will the vaquero handle "hot" loads the way that a Blackhawk will, and to what degree of accuracy?

I had purchased the S&W mountain gun in 45 colt and the Blackhawk at the same time, and opted to keep the Smith just due to the D/A design. I realise the Smith will not last shooting hot stuff, but have come to work a load with Marshall's 265Keiths that runs about 850-900fps that is accurate as all git up.

price aside, is it worth a Vaquero to launch hot Colts or should I let it pass....:confused:

Mine handles them just fine, if you aren't talking about the very new 'small frame' models (which I don't think are available in stainless, anyway).

Send me an email re: this, I'll go into more detail about regulating loads and you can decide if it's worth it.

Heck I might just talk you out of it! :D

If I recall correctly, the original Vaquero is derived from the Blackhawk with all its dimensions identical. Only the cosmetics (fixed sights, frame finish) are different. Whatever can be fed into a Blackhawk should also work in a full sized Vaquero.

I agree with Marshall Kane; however, I had to do a lot of work and testing to get my loads to shoot poi.

I gotta tell ya I just don't think I would go with a fixed sight gun for anything but defense work. Just to much trouble for a gun you might want to hunt with.

Your mountian gun should run loads to the 1250/1350 fps mark without shooting it loose. I ran thousands of 255 grain Kieth style cast thru mine without any problems.

al though the price was excellent, I've deceided to go with a redhawk instead.
