I have a few hundred rounds of old rifle and shotgun ammo. I mean old; like WWII surplus .3006 and .30 cal for the M1 carbine, not-to-mention both plastic and paper hull SG ammo from the 40's 50's, 60's and 70's.

Anyone have any ideas on the proper and most cost effective way of disposing of it?

Choices:
1. IF it's in good conditon, sell or give it to a shooter/begining collector. Even if they just want to take the rifle rounds apart for the bullets it has a use.

2. Turn it in to the local PD and let them deal with it.

The next two proably would drive the EPA crazy

3. Soak it in oil for a month or so, then bury it.

4. If near deep-deep water, sprinkle it in the next time you go fishing.

Put it on Gunbroker, Auction Arms, Guns America, I'm sure someone will want it for nostolgia or collector value. Put it at a cheap price as your intent is to get rid of it, not to make money and it should sell and you get a few dollars for your trouble.

You'd be surprised at the shootability of the WWII rifle ammo. Only problem is the corrosive primers used. With proper cleanup after shooting, the stuff makes great practice ammo.

The easy answer is to give it to a local gun shop. They will take the ammo and shoot it, sell it or dispose of it for free. All the best...

Send me an email of what you have, as in an estimate of how much, to welder@epix.net and I will likely take all of it. Mark Kw
