Is there a company that makes a converison of the 1911-A1 so it can be chambered into 9 mm?

Thanks for your input, Leon

Leon, if you post this question over on the 1911Forum.com you may have a better chance of getting an answer. There seems to be alot of information on the 1911 there. Greg

IIRC, you need a 9mm slide with extractor and firing pin, plus an ejector, barrel and magazines. There may be a few other detail, so ask at 1911Forum.com. Good site.

Jack has the parts list pretty much down.

The good news is that all of them are non-FFL parts (only the frame requires an FFL). The bad news is that that collection of parts is going to cost.

Cost more than what a basic used 9mm may cost. Were a bunch of full sized Star 9mm's imported recently...same size, weight, basic control placemnt, and "feel" of a full sized Colt. May trun one of them upwith just a little swearching...or if you want light weight, can find the shorter Star BM model used at some dealers for about what one of the major conversion parts would cost.

Springfield armory builds 9mm pistols, you might email them and get the price of a slide assembly as a direct replacement.

Personally I'd contact Clarks or some other customs smith and send in your frame and have one built! :D

I'd just see about buying a new (used?) 1911 chambered in 9mm. It seems like it would be more economical and more headache-free than buying parts to convert an existing .45, fitting them (or having them fitted) and then tuning it so it works right.

I tried a .22 conversion for my .45, and won't ever bother trying another conversion again  It just isn't worth the hassle. For plinking/practice a Ruger Mk2/45 does the job better than the conversion. At least for me. :) For 9mm the cost of conversion, at least to get it done right, doesn't make economical sense. A new gun, from just about any manufacturer, is cheaper in the long run. I have a S&W 6946 for the purposes I want a 9mm for (lawyer resistance!) 9mm stinks for defensive purposes, IMHO.

If you really want a 9mm in a 1911-a1 style gun look no further that springfiled armory as mentioned before. Their prices are good, their customer service is outstanding and I have been very pleased with the 1911 Mil Spec I recently purchased from them. http://www.springfield-armory.com/prod-pstl-1911-fs.shtml

There is a link to one of their models that is offered in 9mm.
