No, they are not "superior" to a Remington or Winchester.

Lot of Weatherby fans however I'm not one. Only one I might own would be the .257. My next rifle will probably be a Win M70 Classic.

If you can get it for a good price you can expect what any purchaser of a Weatherby expects. 1.5" groups at 100 yards with premium ammo is the guarantee. I've shot under an inch with any bullet/powder combination I've tried in mine.

Weatherby is a wonderful rifle, tho' my current fave is a Browning BLR in .308. Easy to carry and with Hornady SST's drops deer dead in their footprints. But I do enjoy my .300 Weatherby. I wouldn't personally bother with a Vanguard, tho' since for the money, there's better choices. If you want the Weatherby calibers, it's a great gun for the money. Short stroke on the bolt, accurate (I think I'm usually under 3/4" and I'm not really even trying for better than that), looks great.
If I weren't buying a W, I'd probably take a hard look at the Savage these days. The Remingtons used to have the better trigger, but no more. Winchester, well you're either a fan or not. You won't be disappointed in a Weatherby, tho'.

As in any thing you get what you pay for. The cheaper Weatherbys or any other brand will not usaly perform as well as the top of the line models.I have a 1973 Mark V Deluxe in 300 that has taken many fine game animals and still shoots better than i can shoot it. They were made by Howa Machine Co. then are were for all purposes made by hand or at least more so than now. They all do the job thats intended of them some do it better than others. A pre war 94 winchester is better made than the one they make now, and usauly will shoot better. I bought and then traded a Blazer double in 9.3 buy 74r ( the metric eqivulent of the 375 h&h ) that would not print both barrels on the same 50 yd target regardless of the loads used. That guns sells for about 7500.00 when a good English double is 8 times that price! Im waiting for the Chinese to get into the act and Wal Mart will carry them i am sure of that.

From what I understand from discussions with gunsmiths. The Remingtons and Winchesters, once accurized, have much more accuracy potential (rifles shoot better than those who shoot them). That being said, if you're purchasing a hunting rifle, the Weatherby is a mighty fine rifle and it tends to hold its value VERY well. Good luck with any purchase and I hope you get years of hunting/shooting pleasure from it.
