i am a hi viz person myself. i use them on shotguns, rifles, and hand guns. they now also make sights for the AR 15's.
i personally like the hi viz green better than the orange here in n.e. texas where the most common outdoor lighting is a yellowed/oranged street light. the best way to decide color is to take them out at dusk and at dark and see what works best for your enviroment.
you do not want a glowing halo effect that drowns out your target, (you might as well shine a maglight in your eye) however you also do not want a minimal step up from your stock black/white sights. (you might as well shine a mag light at your chest.)
i have heard great things about the big dot tritium sights. http://www.gunblast.com/XS_BigDot.htm

TruGlow has both... a tridium/fiber optic sight for Glocks and Kimbers...bright dayling and the fiber otptics shine, in the dark and the tridium lights up the fiber optics, so (if you like the lighted sight idea) get the same glowing dot sight picture day or night. Unforntunally, it's not listed for other guns at this time.
Not a big fan of the light-sights, but it seems to me that if that's your desire, having the same type of sight picture all the time would be a good thing.

Check in Brownell's. They have a whole bunch, enough to make you dizzy if you look at all of them. I like the tritium three dot the best, it's easy to pick up in the dark and as long as the three dots are lined up that is where the bullet is going to hit. "I hope anyway"

I have a Springfield Ultra Compact 45 that is by far my favorite handgun. It has tritium night sights that are very easy to use in low light.

Thanks guys, I haven't ever used lighted or fiber optic sights before I was looking at trijicon and pt night sights pages and am just not really sure what I want.
