Never shot one but check out this recoil table:

May want to consider the .243, 7-08 or the .260 Rem also depending on her recoil tolerance.

Ronnieg,
Recoil is a little less than that of the 25-06, a little more than a stoutly loaded 257Roberts. I had the Win mod 70 Ultimate Shadow, but traded it in for what I really wanted; the Browning Micro hunter/wood&blued.
Both shot extremely well with either handloads or factory ammo. They have a loud crack, but the recoil isn't too bad.
The 257Roberts would also be a good caliber for your wife as many a deer have met their fate to one. Good luck in whatever you choose and glad to see your wife showing an interest in shooting.
