While making the rounds this week I dropped into my favorite gunstore to pick up a few odds and ends when I spotted it.
A used but newer model 39 with a william's peep site. It has a few minor dings on the wood but looks great otherwise. $400+ some tax and it could be mine.
Anyone have a feel for the used market on these? It's a newer version with the cross bolt and round barrel with a lot of writing on it.
The clerk said he'd had it for a few weeks but lever guns aren't popular around here...

The price is about right if it is like new in box with all papers, used about $299 and the sight is worth about $100, so it looks like a good deal.
If the clerk specified lever actions don't sell to good in your area, try and get a better price. Make an offer of $350 and see what happens.
Good luck these are fun to shoot and accurate to boot!

If lever guns aren't popular around there, he'll have it a long time at that price,IMHO
While I really don't care to buy rifles from Wal-Mart, they do sell the same rifle NIB for $358.00. No scratches,no dings, and you get the pleasure of cleaning off the packing grease. :D Of course it won't have the peep sight. But it will come from the factory with a scope base.
If the peep sight is a 5D that's a $37.00 item from Brownell's; if it's a Foolproof,$70.00 from Brownell's. Add $8.00 shipping. You may not even like peep sights. Does the rifle still have the original rear sight?
I believe you can do better.

Looks like Magshooter posted as I was typing :D
He's right about the accuracy and the "Fun Factor". Plus 39A's are quality built all steel rifles.

And Fullchoke is right about the price , far too close to brand spankin prices , especially if their is no market for the thing. That will happen though if they don't have experience pricing certain things.
