While casting bullets today, the bottom pour spout separated from the melt pot and I ended up with 15# of alloy all over my table top. Looking at the pictures on Lee's website, it looks to be a threaded part, but I can't seem to get it to seal. This is only the fourth time I've used this melter--I haven't even used a 100 lbs. of lead through it yet.
Has anybody else had a similar problem? Is there a fix, other than sending it back to Lee and waiting 3 months before I can cast bullets again? Or is this what I get from using a $60 Lee product and not buying a $200 RCBS or Lyman melter.

I've had really good luck with mine. Give Lee a call they can and will help you.
Good luck with your lead pot. I've used one or another of their pots now for 15 years and have been pleased.

I've used that same pot for many years and hundreds of pounds of casting and never had a problem. I'd call Lee and see if they will send you a new one while yours is returning. They should step to the plate and make it right with such an early failure.
Even the $200 pots have an ocassional problem.

You never mentioned getting scalded by that hot lead so the first thing I'm going to say is thank goodness no one was injured. Next, I'm going to say that part should have never failed. Used only four times and the spout falls off, you need to definitely call Lee and get them to take care of this. Finally, Lyman Mag 20 lead furnaces are a little over $200 whereas the RCBS Pro-Melt is closer to $300. They may not be trouble free but they are built like a $200-300 furnace should be.
