I have decided to buy a new Ruger Super Blackhawk. I had one several years ago and really liked it. I noticed that they are now offering it with a fluted cylinder and rounded trigger gaurd. My question is, can I handload the hot loads like I used to for my unfluted model and be safe in the fluted cylinder. Thanks for any help.

The critical dimetions doen't change with fluting...the chambers are just as close to the outside with fluting as without. All you lose is some weight.

No free lunch...less weight = more felt recoil, but the difference between the two guns isn't a drastic amount.

I kind of like the look of the fluted version...the unfluted ones look like they just forgot to do something..

Only the short barreled ones are fluted. The 7.5 inch still has the dragoon frame and unfluted cylinder.

Well, I got my pistol, stainless, 5 1/2 inch and fluted. I've noticed that the grips are smaller than my old 7 1/2 inch one with the dragoon frame. Will this one hold up to the heavy loads like the larger grip frame did?

YES, without a hitch

They're all good, and count yourself lucky that you don't have the square triggerguard! I have scars from mine.... took a while to learn to shoot it without drawing (my!) blood. Last deer I shot with it wasn't so lucky, though....

I'm considering putting a Bisly grip frame on mine, but just haven't gotten around to it, yet.

The SBK recoil is greatly reduced when Magnaported. I once had a 6in barreled SBK with Magnaporting and it was like shooting a 357 mag. Planning on getting the short fluted ss SBK and having it Magnaported. Will make a nice Trail and backup gun.
