I am a 25 year old college graduate and I am fixing to enter the police academy. I have a love for firearms and want the best. I have a dilemma in purchasing the right pistol. I like the H&K USP 40 and the Sig 226 in 40 S&W but i would like to have some feed back as to which you guys prefer and why.
Thanks,
Breck

I can't speak too much for the H & K as I've never shot one but at one time considered picking up a USP. I've had two P226's; one in 9mm and one in 40 S & W. I only have the 40 now and between the two, have fired thousands of rounds and have yet to have a misfire or malfunction. If you're going to become an officer, that's something to consider as it may be your lifesaver one day and from my experience, the SIG is as reliable as they come.

Never shot a H&K, but I have a p226 9mm and my fiancee has a p239 in a 40s&w/357sig. I like being able to swap barrels on the 40 and 357, you can do it on the P226 as well. The P226 feels like an extension of my arm when I shoot it. I say go with sig as well. Nothing against H&K though and plan to own a couple one of these days (mark23 most definitely :D)

The USP is simply awsome I fired a feinds one time and IT shot THE SMALLEST GROUP THAT I HAVE EVER SEEN FIRED FROM A SEMI AUTO service pistol I have also a Sig and it shot well also that is my limited experience with these two pistols

I had the Sig 229 in .40cal.
simply the best "duty" weapon I ever owned...[sobbing, sobbing] should have NEVER sold it.
I also owned an H&K...the Tactical in 45 auto. well engineered pistol, but huge!
Of the two, my choice would be Sig.
[but given any other choices, I'd go with my Springfield XD]

Thanks everyone,
I am heading down to the gunstore to buy the P226 in 40 S&W today. I am excited to get it in a couple of days and begin firing down range.
Thanks,
Breck

On the way, stop by the Academy and ask what their requirements are for a duty weapon. If the department has a specific weapon that is issued (or required) I wouldn't see any reason not to become proficient with it from the git-go , might serve you to be well versed in the same gun that might save your life down the road(?).
