Just kidding, I don't want a verbal war, I just had to get something in there to make people click on this thread. Is the taurus 454 superior to the SRH 454. I have been reading a LOT about cases sticking in the SRH 454 because of thin walls. I used to own a RB 454 and sold it like the imbecile that I am. It never gave me any problems. I still have all the reloading materials and supplies, and am going to get a new one. I was going to get a SRH for the extra shot and I can get it a bit cheaper. But everything I read makes me lean back to the RB. Anyone have a suggestion on which to buy.
Thanks

The sticky case have nothing to do with weak chamber walls mostly rough or unburnessed chamberwalls call Jack Huntington @530-268-6877 and he can explain this better than I as he works on both and builds big bore revolvers for a living

No... the reason for sticky extraction is the alloy that Ruger is using. The only way they could get away with a 6-shot 454 is using a new alloy and this alloy streaches when hot loads are used and when the pressure goes away the chambers shrink back to normal size there for making for sticky cases.

I guess my experience must be unusual. I haven't had any problems with cases sticking in my Ruger SRH. My cases extract easily.

No you are not correct I have also read the article by Brain Pearce whom claimed that was rugar's reasoning the fact is all cylender breath[stretch when fired] the rough or unburnished or bakwards tappered chambers are the real cullprit because when this is corrected they no longer stick

oh by the way 44SANDW I have a redhawk not a super redhawk that started life as 44 mag and was rechambered and rebarreld and is now a six shot 454 casull and works great and has no extraction problems If I remember correctly Andy Cannon was the first to do this way before the SRH and other Gunsmith have done it also remember this is a factory redhawk cylinder I read that they had to have a stronger material bull all the time but I also know that a redhawk cylender works just fine

Hey raisincenter, have you heard about the new .460 S&W Mag. It's a longer .454 case and will shoot the .460, .454, and .45 Colt. Good luck.

Yes, I have heard of it. I also saw where the MSRP is about double a RB or SRH. Judging by the cost of brass on starline I would never shoot it anyway. I have shot the 454 and like it, and that it is what I want. My only options are ruger taurus. due to price.

I'd go with the Ruger. Shoot it and see. If you have sticky case extraction, then it is easy to fix if it is the finish. Check out sixgunner.com as those guys will know the answer or who to talk to also. Lots of good info here without the grandstanding you sometimes get there.

Just remember something, Smith and Wessons MSRP is WAY above what they actually sell for. You can find .500 mags for $800 from time to time, not just not but from when they first came out.

I thought that I read that Ruger is chambering the SRH in the .460 S&W.

I think the .460 is too long to put in the SRH just like the .500 magnum is.
