Shoulder hurts...spent Sat. AM shooting.
Started with a buddy who gave me an old Sykes adjustable flask head (flask missing) that measured 2 1/2 / 2 3/4 / 3 /3 1/4 dram. Some fiddling, a little lathe work, three tiny drilled and tapped holes, and a lot of polishing and filing got it attached to a repro. flask body. Checked the powder weights: close enough.
Which lead me to take the SXS 10ga.percussion shotgun out and a bag of .735" round ball. Found thick patching to fit and started load testing. With a card wad and treated felt wad over the powder and a patched ball it did well. With a card wad and lubed 1/2" fiber wad it did just as well, but belive that long wad is adding pressure so discontinued that load.
The barrels are never going to group together. Individual barrles group pretty well at close range (was shooting at 35yards). The (FFg) 3dr. charge gets your attention...the 3 1/4 is probably excessive.
Any bullet that hurts your foot when you drop on is going to set that gun back a bit. Steel butt plate didn't help.
