I was trained in LE previously on Glocks and have always been partial to them but love the feel of the 1911's. Currently I carry a Glock 27 MOB most of the time, an airweight S&W in ankle some of the time, or if really going light a Kel-Tec .32 in my pocket. I would like to go back to a compact .45 to carry. Money is an issue but considering personal safety lets say it is not what do you folks reccommend for concealed carry in the .45? I really loved the feel and shooting of the Kimber also the feel of the SA XD series, as well as an H&K (pricey). I just want a simple yet well proven new carry preferably in a .45 round. I like the MOB carry style for me. Thanks.

Mike,
I recently bought a used Kimber Ultra Carry II for CCW purposes. It had some problems with extractions but after I was sent a new extractor by Kimber, it works great. I liked it so much, last week I bought a Kimber Ultra CDP, which has a few more bells and whistles. I changed the grips to slim alumagrips which make them easier to conceal. I carry them in a Milt Sparks Versa Max II holster. Its a great combination.

Thanks. When I went to my local gunstore I was looking at various options and particurlarily Kimbers and the guy asked if I had shot a Kimber which was no and he pulled it out and gave me 18 rounds, a silouette, and sent me to the indoor range. It was awesome! I shot a very tight grouping at about 30 yards and it was as much gun as me I will tell you. I believe it was the Ultra Carry I tried out but the feel was wonderful. I am unfamiliar with that holster I will check it out. Thanks.

A quality holster and belt are essential to good carry. The belt is especially important, get a good gun belt from someone like Lightning Arms Sports. It's going to set you back a little $$, but without the belt you will be tugging at the gun and holster constantly to keep them hoisted up. As far as the gun around here you can get a new Kimber Ultra Carry II without night sites for $700. I found this price after I paid $700 for my used one (but it had after market night sights). There have been a lot of posts on 1911forum.com about the reliability of the 3" barrel 1911's, but other than the extractor on mine, it has had no problems. The accuracy is unbelievable. I haven't had a chance to shoot the CDP yet, but I'm hoping it will be just as good. From what I hear, the CDP's seem to be tweaked a little more, so we'll see.
