This is my first attempt at using gas checks, so I may not even be in the right ball park. The problem? Only 5 out of 15 gas checks go on straight. I'm using a Lee sizer,.323 dia, Hornady .323 gas checks, gas checks are anneiled(sp)before they go on. Bullets are Laser cast 170gr rnfp .322 dia,( they have a small bevel at the base.) Could this be the problem?,or do I need a .322 sizer, and this is gonna sound stupid, the bullets do go in the sizer base first don't they?,never used a sizer or gas checks before, everything has been jacketed. I don't want to size the bullets, just put the gas checks on straight. The rifle is a 94 Win .32 spl, bore dia of .3222 I'm using the Lee liquid alox that came with the kit. I'm wasting too many bullets and gas checks this way. Please help, I'm all ears, or eyes in this case. Thanks alot guys.

WW,
You hit the nail on the head ! After looking at the Laser-cast site, the bullets in question are not designed for gas checks. The bevel base is for ease of loading and production. Hope this helps, and welcome to the wonderfull world of cast bullet shooting. It's a blast!!! :p Jeff

Thanks, Jeff. Thats what I was afraid of. On the other hand at least I don't have to buy a different sizer, just different bullets. Your right, cast bullets are a blast, sometimes a pain in the blast but, it's always a wonderfull challange trying to figure out how to turn the pain into pleasure. Looks like I'll have to find a 1200 to 1300fps load for these bullets to keep them from leading which they do at 1400fps and up. Thanks again for your help.

You need a bullet designed for a gas check. They go nose up into the sizer. Bullets designed for a gas check have a smaller base and are designed for a gas check. I use mostly Lee molds and when you look at their catalog they will tell you which bullets are for gas checks. almost all bullets designed for rifles, especially bores under 35 calibre are designed for gas checks.
Good luck on this casting business, been doing it for over 40 years now and it shure makes shooting fun.
