I have a .22 S&W revolver. The model is K-22 and serial number is 586**. Is there anyone who knows how old this gun is? I can't find any info on it anywhere, and don't want to pay $30 for S&W to send me the info. This gun belonged to my great grandfather, my father and now me. Thanks for any info.

There's quite a few collectors over at the Smith&Wesson forum who know their numbers.

Sometimes the serial numbers don't tell much. The frames are stamped and later they make the gun, not always on time. K-22 Outdoorsman 1931-1940 632132-682419 K-22 Masterpiece 1940-1941 682420-696952 Are you sure of the serial #? Hope I helped, good luck.

You can get a general time of manufacture by looking at the featrues of the gun. Does it have 4 screws in the side plate? Front sight pinned on ? Front sight base pinned on? Screw in front of triggerguard? Groove cut near the end of the extractor rod?
