hi, just got a 50 encore. real good accuracy with 3- 777 pellets under hornady sabot with 300 xtp 45cal bullet. guy at a gun shop said 3 pellets generate too much pressure. vel. is 1999@15ft. as the crony shows. what do ya think? hot or not?

You might call T/C, but considering you can get an Encore frame with a .300 Mag barrel, it's hard for me to think that this will be an issue (unless the barrel steel is just butter-soft)

Thompson/center Omega book lists a 300 gr.bullet with mag express sabots, 3 pyrodex pellets @ 2036 f.p.s. muzzle energy 2762 ft.Lbs.. The Omega 50 cal and the encore use the same barrel with 1"-28" twist. They caution that the right sabots should be used when shooting magnum loads. That load should hve given a good push to the shoulder. The folks down at thompson have been more than hepful with any questions. Have you tried any conicals yet?

Good shooting

no,i haven't. the only loads i've tried were 2 or 3 pellets with hornady sabots and 250 or 300 xtp bullets. the 3 pellet of 777 and the 300 bullet grouped best. under 1 1/2 inch@110 yds. recoil was not bad, can tell a difference between 2 and 3 pellets, but the encore is not a light weight rifle.used to own a .54 great plains rifle, 90gr. black and a patched round ball were quite unpleasant. hooked steel butt even cut my shoulder. i'll shoot this encore 5 to 1 over the LGP.

I've heard and read rave reviews on the encore. Everything from the over engineering of the break to the ease of cleaning. I talked to my old budy Abe yesterday and his choice is the 250 gr xtp's w/ 100 gr. 777 loose powder in his savage ml. groups in at 3/4"-1" at 100 yds off a good rest (Scoped). How do you like the drop on the back stock of the encore. It looks drastic but is supposed to be quick to line up and take some of the snap out of heavier loads

hey allyn, can't say i like the stock shape. however it does seem to grow on ya. must say the rifle does not recoil badly. as i mentioned before, my LGP rifle was unpleasant to fire. maybe just the way it fit me, but i'm only average size, 5'10-200lbs. this rifle and 777 is a breeze to clean. sabots load somewhat hard but as i understand they all do. i don't detect any 'crud ring' that some guys mention. it wears a 3-9 leupold and all loads are shot over a $90 crony.best $90 ever spent for a reloader. it gives ya the straight dope. you'd be suprised how your firearms really perform. my rifle has wood stocks so maybe that helps with recoil.

Thompson Center are very tight on their tolerances, when they spec a rifle out they are consistant for that model. Randy wakeman is a good source for information that is not slighted to one manufacturer.Tells it like it is good or bad. check out his web if you get a chance. Almost anything you what to know about black powder. I should be going to the range this weekend to try out some thompson conicals w/ verying loads. Abe says to cut losses and stick with the sabots. What can I say,
