I read in a Smokeless Jim post about hunting 45 load a reference of his rifle - a 'new winchester 92'. Is winchester making them again? thanks in advance.

The 92 was new in the box when I got it. I think it was made in 1990's. Wish I could find one in 44-40!

If you get your hands on a Winchester (USRAC) catalog you will find a section of guns labeled as "Classic Traditions". *Each year Winchester re-runs some old models, the M92's have been running from around 1997 until 2000. *So far they have run Model 12 pump, M52B, M1886, M1895, M1892 just to name a few. *They are manufactured in the Japanese Miroku plant (same as Browning Citori, etc.) and come in limited production numbers. *I noticed in the 2001 catalog that Winchester relabeled the guns "Historic Rifles" and divided them into two classes "Classic Traditions" and "Limited Editions", with the Classic Traditions becoming continuing models in the catalog. *At any rate the M92 is no longer listed, so if I wanted one I would look around. *I have seen for sale in area gun shops (over the past few months) several new M92's in .45 Colt and .44 Magnum, but only one in .357 Magnum and one in .44/40. *I have one in .45 Colt and the workmanship is terrific, I am quite pleased with the rifle. hello, odessa! thanks for the info. I live in Brasil, and our west landscape was 'won' between 1900/1920, years after this happened in US. Our 'gun that won the west' was the winchester 92, mainly in 44.40, thus, my interest. Authentic win 92s in working condition are very sought, as historic value and as shooters. I have an original one, made in 1911 - 44.40 cal, and shoots well. I use it sparingly, 'cause of historic value, but have 2 copies made by rossi, nice guns, that I shoot a lot. luck and health!

You are welcome. I found an original Winchester M92 44/40 for sale last week in a gunshop in Fayetteville NC. Looked like it had been reblued years ago and had a Rossi buttstock on it. The rest of the rifle looked fairly decent, but they still wanted 速.00 for it! I am quite happy with my newly manufactured one myself. Odessa
