Well I was down to my favorite gun shop yesterday and there sat in the display case a new Taurus 41 mag stainless Tracker. Now I’ve done a lot of business in this shop and just for fun I said what kind of trade would you give me for my 4013 Smith tactical?

After some hemming hawing and checking in his gun guide the young fella behind the counter said how about 90 bucks difference.

Now I’ve had this 4013 since it was new and over the last few years it’s resided in the drawer next to the bed and just doesn’t get shot anymore. It’s got the best trigger I’ve ever had on a semi-auto double action I’ve ever felt except my friends para-ordance 45, but it throws cases half a country mile and every time I shoot it I never retrieve all the cases. Even when I got both my grandbabies picking them up I loose a few. It does shoot great groups and is a really nice looking gun, but I am a wheel gun fella at heart. I guess I’m back to the point that if it throws cases away it’s going to be a .22 so the cases stay on the ground (well when I’m not at the range anyway).

Anyway today I brought the 4013 down to the shop and made my trade. I used the 90 bucks I got along with the tracker to buy a set of dies and a 210 grain bullet mold. I Think I’m going to load up a bunch of mild loads and shoot this gun a lot more, plus it will make a nice carry gun for hunting season.

Well if there are any of you 41 mag Tracker owners out there let me know how you like them and thank all of you guys for putting up with my meandering.

since you've done the deal, all I can say is I hope you fare better than I.

It's been a disaster...Had to send it back to Taurus 5 or 6 times to get the cylinder gap correct. The cylinder rubbed the forcing cone when it rotated, scratching the cylinder. Now they tell you not to clean the cylinder with anything abrasive as it will take a protective coating off the titanium cylinder...but they ship and reship and reship a gun that rubs the forcing cone...go figure. And one time they replaced the cylinder and factory ammo wouldn't chamber!

Their customer service is horrible...idiots, I swear. I will never buy another Taurus product...I won't even date a girl who's sign is Taurus after this experience. And I won't go in to the troubles I had trying to get another grip for the gun...

On the plus side it's pretty accurate and the light carry is good for in the woods as bear protection.

The grip and trigger guard position manages to bark my knuckle on every shot, so I don't ever shoot it anymore.

I bought it 3 years ago, so maybe quality is better now...please let us know how you are faring with the peice.

Leverite, note his is the Stainless model.

I had the Ti model a while back, mine did very well. It shot very well and functioned very well. Reports are that Taurus puts out good ones like mine and not so good ones like Lerverite's.

You will want to know that the Trackers have a short cylinder. The 220/230 gr Keiths are too long. I trimmed a batch of cases back by .05" IIRC. 16.5 to 17 grs of AA#9 worked well with that bullet in the shorter cases although it was a handful recoil wise.

Thnks both you guys. This one seems to shoot and function well. I did not want the titanium one. I want to shoot it more often and 41 mag is hot enough in the 34 ounce model. Sure sorry leverite you had such a bummer experience, I've had that happen with a product once in a while and know exactly where your coming from.

Only difference I noted between it and my 44's is that the ports make it louder. It recoils straight back and is extremly easy to get back on target. The grips that come on it are exceptional and I had no problem with it hitting my finger on recoil. Guess with the death grip I've used for target shooting for 40 years It doesn't have a chance to recoil in my hand.

I'm gonna cast Lees 210 grain bullet for it because of the short chamber. They have one that is designed for tumble lubing. The .429 version of this bullet shoots very well without sizing. Don't plan to really hot load it. Will run them just a little over 1050 fps so my wife and grandbabies can shoot it too.

If I'm up on the North Fork fishing in bear country I'll put some hotter loads in it.

faucettb,

I'm glad the quality is there with yours. Sorry about my rant. When someone says Taurus...I go there without thinking.

My hands are a bit small so that may be the cause of the problem w/ the knuckle busting.

good luck!
