Traded my Berreta 84f towards a brand new Ruger Super Redhawk 480 today, any one know of any weekneses or what kind of scope I should get, I just had shoulder surgery so not able to shoot it yet, real nice gun looks like my Winchester Timber 450 marlin might be sitting in the safe this hunting season. Can this gun also shoot 475 linebaugh?

I don't know if the 480 has any weaknesses but I would doubt it. I have a 44 SRH and have lots of rounds thru it. Only recomendations I can make are have a set of Wolf or Brownells springs put in and a good trigger job done on it. I shoot an aimpoint 5000 on mine and it's good for deer to a hundred yards or a bit longer if I can find a good rest.

I really like the Super Redhawk. Only problem with it is I have to use a chest holster as it's so big. Brownells has them for $30.00. One fella recommended that you put a sling swivel on the butt and barrel and just sling it. That's probably a good Idea too. I just like a little more protection for the gun and scope.

Good luck with your new SRH, let me know how it shoots.

No .475 Linebaugh. The .480 chambers are too short to accomodate the longer round.

No it will not shoot 475. I've found that somedays the cases stick in the cylinder really bad. I should send it back but have not gotten around to it yet.

If the 480 winds up having more recoil than what you can handle comfortably, I could install one of my brakes on it for you and while the barrel is off, go ahead and cut a proper forcing cone on it and set the barrel back to close the barrel/cylinder gap to .002 of an inch...

As far as scopes go, I shoot Rugers 454 Casull and mounted a custom base to the gun so I could use 4-rings to mount my Bushnell Trophy 2X-6X-32mm handgun scope. The reason for going to the custom base is after talking face to face with a Ruger Rep., he told me out of his own mouth that the two ruger rings "ARE NOT ENOUGH TO PROPERLY HOLD A SCOPE IN PLACE"! I showed him my set-up and let him shoot it with my brake on it and he fell in love with it so much so that he has sent several customers my way to rig their gun up like mine....

The only cases that have been tight in my 480 are Hornaday. Have'nt had any stick.

I've had my Ruger 480 for three years now and no problems. The recoil is like a push back at you rather than like the recoil of the 454 which feels sharper and up and back at you, and much heavier. I shoot a 91/2 barrel with a Sightron 2x20 scope. The only problem I have had with it was learning and practicing shooting it without my middle finger resting against the trigger guard. When I rest it against the trigger guard, it takes three or four rounds to say...let's quit for the day. I have not had a problem with sticking or tightness with a round in the cylinder.

Put 50 rounds thru it so far, to me there is really not much recoil at all, even shooting off a sandbag with 1 hand, the Burris 2-7 scope I installed was easy to sight in. I am satisfied with this purchase.

Have you tried the 400gr loadings yet? If you reload there is lots more safe power in the round. The Hornady 325gr loads are well below the SAAMI specs for the round.

Glad to hear you like your new revolver. I shoot a .480 in a 5" Raging Bull and am very happy with it so far.
