Here's the story. I went into the shop and they had a set of blued Leupold low QDW rings for $5 (sticker price was $60). Catch was, no screws, and one ring's lower half was broken. No biggie, I only needed one ring for mounting a laser so home they went. A few screws and I was in business.
Now, what do do with a broken lower half. I e-mailed Leupold about getting a replacement. The rings were supposed to be new but got broken somehow and the dealer did not want to bother returning them. However, it was obvious that some kind of thread locker had been used on the rings and maybe they had been a demo set and that was how they got broken, the dealer didn't know or wasn't talking. I told Leupold all this and mentioned I only paid $5 for the set and that if they would not fix it under warranty I completely understood and said I would like a replacement lower ring even if I had to pay for it. They e-mailed back and asked me to return the ring, but promised nothing.
That was a week ago and yesterday the mail came and Leupold decided not to just replace the ring and be done with me. What they did was send me a complete whole new set of two rings, no charge! :D Five dollars got me three 1 inch Leupold QDW low rings, now that is the best deal I have made in a loooonnnng time.

Burris, take note! Now THAT is customer service!

In over 30 years of experience, I have never had to get any kind of warantee service from Leupold. However I have returned 2 scopes I had owned for years for a crosshair change and parralex adjustment to 60 yards. Both scopes were returned within a week and got a cleaning and reseal at no charge. Your experience with Leupold is the norm, as far as I can see. Service with the other guys has always been problematic according to what I read here at the websites I frequent. Yous can always buy cheaper, but yous takes yous chances...

This was just the lastest adventure I have had with Leupold. All have been very satisfactory. First was I let a buddy borrow a scope. And since no good deed goes unpunished, he lost the adjustment covers. I called Leupold asking to buy a new set and they sent me out a set within a couple of days, you guessed it, free of charge. The second time I needed their CS was with a VXIII LR 8.5-25 on a .50 BMG AR-50. I thought I had a problem with the focus going out of adjustement. I was having to dail in the side focus parallax adjustment for each shot. I contacted them, explained what was happening, and they were at a loss to explain what would cause the problem. They advised to send it in and they would replace the scope since they didn't have a clue on what to do to "fix" it. Well, before sending it in I tried it again and the problem was gone, and in over 200 rounds since then it has never come back. Maybe it was the early morning hazz (I shoot right after daybreak before the wind kicks up) or my old man eyes or...beats the heck out of me what caused the problem but Leupold was going to make good on it regardless, it just turned out that the only problem was with the nut behind the trigger.
