What would you recommend for cast bullets in the 30-30 Ackley Improved? I'm talking strickly gas checked bullets.
Bullet weight/mold manufacturer/primer/powder & charge weight.
If you use jacketed bullets I would appreciate any information.
I've not found a great amount of reloading material out there. I'm having my 336 rechambered for the round so I'm new to this and asking the question(s) on other forums too.
Thanks in advance.

In my opinion the .30-30AI is not much as a full power cast bullet cartridge.
As a lower power lead cartidge it is almost as good as the standard .30-30. I have duplicated quite a bit of Beartooth Forum Memeber Greg Mushials lead load data from GMDR.com I wish I could shoot from the bench as well as Greg but I cannot. I shoot well enough to be encouraged and I know his loads shoot well.
The good thing about Gregs loads is that you can shoot without gas checks if you prefer. This cuts down on the cost of plinking loads. Gregs loads will improve your bench technique thats for sure. You can see the bullet hit the paper with a low power scope at 50 yards - no recoil.
I think Greg uses Laser Cast bullets exclusivly. I cast my own so the load data crosses. Greg uses smaller diameter bullets than I do. He uses .308" diameter bullets, I use .311" bullets. My accuracy with his loads was not what I expected at first. I e-mailed him and he suggested a smaller diameter bulle. This worked for me in both the Winchester and the Marlin - both forms of rifling. If you cast your own I suggest the Lee 170 grain flat point bullet as cast (this will be between .3075" and .308") and Lee tumble lube with no gas check to start.
When you get on the gmdr site. Read the article at the top of the load data. Greg is using fast powder and you must stay alert when loading this way. Your bench technique needs to be deliberate and careful.

Slim -
Thanks again - you are a wealth of good information. I will check out the GMDR site as you suggest.
I'm just glad others like yourself have traveled down this path before me and have knowledge & experience to share.

I agree w/ the lee 170 gr. bullet choice, tho I don't have a 30-30ai, I do use it in a 30-30 and in my 308 and this bullet works really well. Marty
