I am pretty new to bullet casting and have been able to cast some decent, good shooting bullets. The other day I was casting some 250 grain SWC from linotype for my 45 Colt Bisley and made a little discovery. I let the sprues from both cavities puddle together. The bullets started to cast just about perfect. They have nice sharp edges and look great. I guess they are cooling slower or something. Whatever it is it works and I am casting better bullets for it.

I often do that also as I knock my sprues off on a dry cloth and knock the bullets into some water and rags. Makes them easier to dump back into the pot when I take a break or quit. Whatever works good seems to be the way to go in casting.

You may be right about that cooling slower but casting at the right temp and enough tin in your melt help with sharp edges also. A lot of my shinny bullets don't fill out good and need more temp. When the temp gets too high, they turn a grey dull looking color but sometimes they fill out good that way.

Lino makes nice bullets but it's a shame to use pure lino as that's way too hard for most uses except rifle. Cut that stuff about 50/50 with ww's or other lead.
