The Omega 50 cal. i purchased in Dec. 04' had the older style approx. 1/2" deep receesed breech plug (see Randy Wakemans running change omega). I have since changed and no longer experience the hard crud ring associated with 777 powder.
Down on the range the Thompson Omega has settled on the T/C 320 grain maxi balls 100grains 777. Groups touching at 50 yards, 1 1/4" first group 100 yds. clean barrel. 1 1/2" group 100 dirty barrel. The scope had to be adjusted up 2" at 100 yds. to zero out.
I was impressed with the ease of loading, accuracy, and the fact that you don't have to clean between every load. Our club has a blackpowder shoot every Sat. in which you can only use lead bullets. No plastic, No jacketed bullets. I feel confident this bullet and swabing (spit patch) between shots will tweek the accuracy to pass through at 50 yds. and 1" at 100 yds.
I will try the 250 grain and 300 grain xtp magnum loads on the next range visit and post results.
