I just found a place to buy aprox. 500 to 800 pounds of sheet lead, it is about 1/16 inch thick, 18 inches to 2 feet wide and up to 8 feet long, it seems very soft.
I am thinking of buying it all and reselling it to muzzle loaders, as it will probably be to soft for my needs for my 44 Mag and 30 cal. bullets for 30-30, 30/06 and 300 Win Mag.
About what is this worth per pound?
Thank You
Michael Grace

More than likely it's lining from something; acid vats, X-ray room walls, radiation shield, ect.
Problem is that you cannot tell how the alloy will react until you melt and cast it. Some of this sheet lead is extruded and work softens in the process of becoming a sheet. When it is melted and cast, it can return to a very hard state. The only two ways to tell exactly what you have is to either have a metalurgical analysis done on it or melt and cast some and check the hardness with a tester.

Found some lead sheeting years ago and it turned out to be pure lead. Still mixing 50/50 bar solder today to cast bullets with ingots made from the lead sheeting.
Don't know what lead goes for today, I have a life time supply and haven't needed to look or buy for quite some time. From this distance it looks as though you are close to lead independence, take a close look at the market and jump on that lead if the price is right.
Hoopie,

When I buy lead, I pay $0.20/lb from a scrap metal dealer. He usually has various alloys from sheet lead to range shot to linotype. It's all 20c/lb.
