I'm trying to squeeze the last bit of accuracy out of a Martini-henry. I'm told that the proper bore size on the Mk 3 runs .462 to .464. Anyone out there know of a supplier for an off size mould like this? So far the .457 in dead soft lead in Lee moulds will shoot about 2 1/2 inches. I'd like to do a bit better and I think the rifle is capable of it as the bore is mint.-Cariboo

It's best to measure your bore by slugging it before you order a custom mould. Beartooth's instructions are in this FAQ part way down this page.
"How do I measure cylinder throat dimensions for my revolver?"

If sinkers aren't available, a Hornady or Speer .50 swaged round ball will do, or you could expand one of your bullets by squeezing it length-wise in a vice.
Two custom mould makers that may have what you want are:

.460-.464 seems about right for most. You can go with a hollow based bullet, like the Lee 405 grain HB, or you can paper patch. You can also go with the largest .45 mold you can find, use soft alloy, don't size, and let the bullet bump up. I shoot lee's 405 grain mostly. Not as accurate as PP, but less work!

Thanks Jack and Charlie- I've got a hunk of cerro- safe I could use to pour a slug with. I've been paper patching for a while. One of the problems I have is that I live in a one horse cow town in central B.C. and the paper selection is pretty poor. In the book "the paper jacket" the recommendation is for 16 lb. stock. Another recommendation I've gotten is to use 9 lb. airmail with a 25% rag content. Two turns on a .457 will yield a .464. So the next trip out to civilization I'll have to turn out some of the larger stationary stores.-- Cariboo
