I recently read an article in G&A about the new S&W 460. Now I don't really intend on purchasing one of these bohemiths, but the article did get my interest up. One of the factory loadings that the writer tested involved a 200gr Hornady SST bullet. Since the bullets are the same size as those used in the 454 Casull and the 45 LC, I was hoping that I would be able to try some of these bullets in my Casull.

I emailed Hornady and asked when the bullets would be available for purchase, and they replied that they had no intention of releasing these SST bullets for reloading purposes. Well that just really sucks! The ballistics that are published in G&A (3200fps, if I remember correctly) were produced with these bullets. If this is the case, the only way to get these bullets is from factory loadings, which will undoubtedly be mega-expensive.

I was wondering if anybody knew of a manufacturer that made BT (ballistic tipped) bullets for handgun cartridges. My reloads will be used in an Encore, so really no difference than a break -open rifle (no forcing cone issues or pressure loss due to cylinder gap). To my current findings, none of the muzzleloader / sabot bullets are sized for use in the Casull, so that wont work either. Not that I have a real need for BT bullets, just thought it would be neat to load some and try them.
Does anybody have any ideas or suggestions?\

I need to correct my original post. The 200 grain SST did not produce 3200 fps...........it was 2300 fps. Sorry for the mis information. My post was late and I was a bit tired and did not check my typing before posting.

Sorry
