I have just about settled on a Marble's tang sight for my 39A. I thought before I order one, I'd post a question here. I'd like to hear from anyone who uses one of these sights. Particularly if you have one on a 39A. I'm most interested in your opinions about the sight. I'm also curious about the installation. Was anything required other than drilling and tapping two holes in the tang ? Since I don't have the equipment, or the know how to do the drill & tap, it will be a gunsmith job, I'm just wondering if I'll have to pay for anything unexpected.
Thanks,
HRF

I have the Marble's Tang mounted peep sight on a 1897T (a 39A variant). It took a little getting used to, but I really like it now. I had a tendancy to "fight" the sight. I was trying to center my front bead in the aperature. The eye has has the natural tendancy to center the bead and I was trying to make things harder than necessary. Once I learned to just relax and not "overstudy" my sight picture the rifle/sight became quite accurate.

Your rifle may require a new front sight if there is not enough elevation on the tang sight. This is not unusual, so don't be surprised if your smith suggests it.

The Marble's sight is more expensive than the competition. But I chose it over the Lyman because of the windage adjustment and the material of construction. I think it's worth the extra money.

After you shoot it awhile and get used to the new sight,I'm confident you will really like it.

I have this same setup, and like the ease of adjusting the Marble's for different distances. Very quick to change it, you don't need a screwdriver, etc. Just remember to take notes.

Accuracy is a little better because of the longer sight radius, and it doesn't spoil the balance of the rifle like a scope.

On my 39 there is plenty of room for elevation, in fact the original bead was too low. The Marble's wouldn't adjust low enough. That's good because if you start with a low setting, there's plenty of room for elevation for long distance shooting.

My 39A Mountie has a Marbles tang sight that I put on. It has a DOM of 1956. I thought that it came drilled and tapped from the factory but I may be wrong. Does anyone know about the 1956 +/- vintage Marlins and whether they came tapped from the factory? By the way, I love the tang sight. I use the target disc as I seemed to acquire the target faster.

Gentlemen,
I recently purchased a very used Model 39 as a project gun. The rear sight is gone and I'm thinking about replacing it with a tang sight. There are two plug screws in the tang that appear to have never been removed. Have these rifles ever been factory D&T for a tang sight? If so, does it require a specific, possibly out of production, version of the Marbles or Lyman sights?

I done a search for marlin lever .22s at numrich, and came up with a couple of things. One they sell dummy screws for the tang on certain models and the 39AS comes up with this as a part. Click link below.
