Any of you fellows have any experience with the .338 Nosler Accubond in the .338 Magnum?
My cousin is not satisfied with the 3-shot groups of one and a half inches that he is getting with his new Ruger 77,bolt action.
He has tried Imr 4350 and is going to RL-19 next.
Thanks!

What grain bullets?
How much powder?

I helped my brother in law make a recipe for his stainless model 70 in 338 win mag with 4831 and 200 grain nosler partitions that run about 1" groups.
H 1000 might be another choice.
Might also check to see if the stock is touching the barrel anywhere. That can shift point of impact too.Davies synthetic stock had a high spot we had to sand off to get it to shoot.
I've floated the barrel on almost all my guns at it helped a bunch. The 35 Whelen hasn't seemed to need it yet.
Good luck. Sometimes it takes awhile.

.225 Grain Nosler Accubond.
IMR 4350 - powder weight ?? -He has tried several at the high end.
He's also looked at the bedding and lightened the trigger pull. This guy works for a firearms manufacturer and has a lot of experience working on actions.
The shots don't string in any direction, just a normal distribution in a group that doesn't meet his expectations.

Maybe he needs to step the powder down a notch. Very rarely do you find excellent accuracy at the high end. I know it happens, but more often than not, you must sacrifice a little velocity for excellent accuracy.

He may also want to try a slower powder such as Reloader 22 or one of the 4831's.

I shoot the 338 in the Ruger 77. I am working on the correct col as Rugers are cut a little deep, so a 200 gr bullet is going to have a "jump" to the barrel. I use 215 -250 bullets, with the best accuracy going to the heavier bullet. I use IMR 4831 and IMR 7828 at 3/4 max loads and groups 1.5" on the ave.
