Just curious, would it be un-advisable to fire a foster style slug through a full choke shotgun?

The gun in question is a Marlin 55 goose gun, bolt action, 12 gauge, 36" barrel and fixed full choke. I was thinking the constriction could be a bit much.

Any opinions?

He's right...they'll not damage the gun...will lead the choke rather badly, the accuracy may be poor, but no harm will come of it.

Both of the above posts are right. The benifits of a Foster type slug is that between the "fins" and the hollow base and being pretty much pure lead, they will swage down to any bore or choke diameters. Accuracy, most probably will not be as good as it would be in an unchoked bore,,, but ,,, you never know.

Great... thanks for your input. I may need to use a slug gun for deer hunting in certain areas in PA. If the accuracy is decent, I will just use the marlin.

Good luck CH,

There is a bill in NY to allow rifles in the shotgun only area so we are doing the opposit of what you are doing.I found out that the info PA has on shotguns was that they were more damaging than rifles.1 in 8 people use a shotgun for big game in PA but 1 in 4 clames for property damage is caused by a shotgun.I can`t belive the politicans are going to make us use souch a dangerouse shotgun for hunting. You would think they would save us from our self.after hunting with a rifle get use to the feeling of throwing rocks at deer with a slug from a shotgun.50-75 yds is realy the limit for fosters accuracy wise.you might do a little better with breneke style slugs as they will shoot in a full choke gun as well.

Happy hunting
