I don't know what he did that was so defiant, but if a loved one - especially one of my parents - called from an active war zone, I would NOT hang up on him or her! "yeah, mom, I know this might be the last time ever get to speak to you again, but I have to go finish my lunch...". I don't think so!

The suspension was not well thought out and totally ridiculous

I think if I had been able to call one of my children from either Korea, or Viet Nam, and he was told to get off the Phone, I would have contacted the childs guardian and had him/her onto the School Board that day.
Once the teacher was informed that it was the childs mother calling from a War Zone, that teacher should have used a little compassion and common sense.
That childs voice was the best morale booster that Woman could have received. My heart goes out to her, and I hope that the School has sense enough to rectify their attitude.

kdub,
Thank you for moving this thread over here. I imagine that there are quite a few Vet's besides me who were appaled by the School's attitude, and just needed someplace to vent. I know this thread is not gun related, but it sure is one of intrest to all of us who served, and is definitly Military related.

I can't tell you how jumping up and down mad I was when I heard this news report. Have people forgoten that we are still fighting a WAR. And with this kind of war, there really is no front line, or really safe rear area. Heaven forbid, but that lady really could have been making her last phone call to her kid. The way this war is being faught by those cowards with so many IEDs and carbombs, you just never know. And some @$$ of a "by the rules" teacher is going to try to get the kid to hang up. And then whats worse is the way the school handled everything. As a fellow vet that has served overseas in wartime I can't bear to imagine that happening to me while I was on the phone with my wife or kid. I wish there were more people upset as I am about this.

I understand the school board got so much mail, email and calls that they reduced the suspension to three days. I can't believe they couldn't have just reinstated him under the circumstances.

Sad thing is that Ft Benning is outside the city limits and is one of the biggest bases left. talk about not being military friendly!

That attitude can be changed real quick. Years ago I was stationed at a base where the Base Commander put the town off limits to all base personnel, because of harrasment from the local Police Department, not even allowing any purchases from local merchants. After three months and a lot of complaining from the City Fathers, we were paid in $2.00 bills and Silver Dollars. It got their attention!

Hello everybody, I tried to send a message to the school, they are apparently blocking new e-mails, I tried a couple of differant ways to send it to them, still a no go.
I am very proud of Kevin, if some faculty member had tried taking my phone away from me under these circumstances there would certainly have been blood shed, this is one of the few things that have gotten me riled and ready to kick butt NOW, usually it takes a while to get this stoked.
just venting now, John
