My son is at Camp Guiger in the School of Infantry. He graduates this week. He called today to say he has completed everything but has no direction about what is coming. Only rumors. He does not know if he has a regiment, a company or anything. There is rumor that he will be attached to the 26th MEU. Would he not have some designated unit before he gets attached?
What is going on? Is this the usual way they do ya when you are new?
I know they don't tell them a lot about deployment and such and he is sure he goes to 29 Palms in June and could be deployed by Sept.
Can anyone help an old Dad with questions about his Marine son?

Don't know about the Marines but when my son graduated basic for the Army he had orders to Korea on Monday, got accepted into an advance training on Tuesday, got new orders for Germany after training on Wednesday and Graduated on Friday.

I wouldn't sweat it, that is very much the military way, he'll find out in enough time to report to wherever he has to go. it is irratating, but that's just the way things are.

Chief, Sometimes they send new recuits home on leave after Basic, and then Mail them their new assignment orders. Just tell him for me, "Welcome to the Military Way"!

My son made it home for the weekend. He has got a unit now and should be getting aquainted this week. He is scheduled for desert training in July. I was all wet on the MEU part. He is 2-6 and will be assigned to a MEB, the 4th I think. Thanks guys for your assistance.
Chief,
Glad things have stabilized a little . Seems to me that whenever I was assigned or reassigned in the Army I got the usual "you've got 30 minutes to pack your duffel bag" type of notice. And if memory serves me, none of the rumors were more than 30% right.
Hope he enjoys the time as it will obviously stay with him the rest of his life as a major building factor.

Seems its like that all over the world.. as the old saying goes "troops are like mushrooms - keep em in the dark and feed em a lot of humus"

I think it's been that way since the first Army was formed.

I don't thinkt the Army is special in that regard. Spent a lot of time in the Navy wondering who was directing the show.
