The set trigger on my .54 Hawken is very stiff. I haven't measured it, but would guess about 5-6 lbs. when set. The owners manual is useless on this, as it doesn't even mention this type of trigger. I've fiddled with it, but can't seem to make it better.
Also, I can't remove it from the stock. It seems to be jammed into the slot it's inlaid in. I don't want to damage anything trying to get it out.
Any advice? I like the rifle, but would like to take full advantage of the set trigger.

The trigger on my Heritage Hawken is feather fire when set. About the time my finger can even detect the touch, it fires. Mine may be unusually light, yet yours definitely seems defective. Mine is 15 years old, so not the same line I think.

I believe you got to get it out to fix it. It may be rusted or gummed up inside. has to be removed to see. You might want to take it to a gunsmith rather than mess up your stock getting it out.
These triggers can be set pretty light. It would probably be worthwhile to have this fixed.

Am trying to remeber the Cabelas hawken take down. Believe the brass trigger guard is held on by two screws...removing that exposes the trigger plate. That plate is held in by way of the big screw that runs through the tang from the top (that screw runs through the hooked breech)....can't remember if there is a wood screw towards thr front fo the trigger plate or not.
Remove the LOCK...with all the above stuff out of the way, should be able to get a visual on what's hanging the triggers from coming out.
With them in hand, should be able to see what needs to be done to the set trigger.

Thanks guys. I've had the guard, lock, and all visible screws out and it still wouldn' budge. I can't think of enything else other that it just being jammed in so tight it won't move. I don't want to booger up the stock trying to pry it out.

You could try putting the stock in your attic for a while to heat and dry it. Bring it back down one night and try to remove the trigger. Just a thought.
