I'm in need of some new die sets, well not really need, but want. I have toolheads for my Dillon 550B setup with my dies for some calibers, set for established mass produced loads. I like to experiment with different .41 mag loads and I don't like to tamper with my ready to run progressive to crank out 20 of this or that load to test. I also don't like to take apart my .357 Mag toolhead in order to load for my .357 Max.

Getting to the point, I saw a deal for the Hornady Titanium nitride die sets for just shy of $28/set for these two chamberings, what do you think of these die sets? I have lots of dies of different makes, but the only other Hornady I have is a four die set for the .480 Ruger/.475 Linebaugh, which I've not loaded more than 5-600 rounds on, so I don't know what to think other than they have caused me no problems and seem to load quality ammo. I had a set of their rifle dies, but the expander stem coming loose annoyed me enough to sell them, although I do like the tapered expander and seating die.

Any good/bad experiences with the titanium nitride pistol caliber dies?

Do you think they'll look nice in the new Redding T7 press? :)

I have them in .38 Special/.357 Magnum and .45 ACP. The sizer works. The expander die is a one piece unit that is only adjustable by the die-to-press lock ring. This would be bad enough with a solid lock ring, but the split lock ring makes it an exercise in frustration. As I already had a Lyman M-Die, the Hornady expanders went to the attic. The only problem I had with the seat was due to some unsized cast bullets that were a bit over .359". The seater was too tight for them.

A shooting pard has them in .45 ACP and is quite pleased with it. He mentioned that titanium nitride seems to produce a much brighter case finish than tungstun carbide. I have a set of New Dimension steel dies for the .44 WCF. It has all the makings of a quality die set, well machined and rugged. It has a sliding sleeve in the seater die which does a great job in helping seat the bullets dead center in the case. I would not hesitate to purchase another Hornady die set.

Got a set for 45-70.

Work as slick as a gut.

Straight walled cases should be no problem.

Mine all work great, both pistol and rifle

Well, they are on order. I don't think there will be any problem with them, just wanted a little input from those who use them regularly.

Thanks.
