Winchester! I've got nothing at all against the others, I'm just a great big Winchester fan because they are the classic guns of the old west.

Marlin. Simple elegance in design making it very easy to maintain. The first company to chamber the 45-70 in production rifles, and they haven't sold out to foreigners like that "other" company (just a polite dig here gentlemen).

Actually, I could almost get along quite well with only Savage rifles....almost.

Marlin - - - - period!

Far better value - - equally good or maybe now better since "the other" outsourced!

Simple to work on and keep clean.

My favorite cartidge is the .307 so it has to be the Winchester, no one else has it.

Marlin
Side ejection made it more do-able with scopes.

Nothing feels like the Mod. 94 Winchester in the hands. It calls up images of the West for me, more than any other gun. I have owned 2 Mod. 94's, my current being a Big Bore in 356 Win. I have no desire for any other Lever, unless your talking about a Shiloh Sharps.

The answer is simple Marlin !!!! every time tight actions
side ejection .What more could a shooter ask for? I'm afraid I never developed aliking for the rattley actions of The "Other Lever action " that came out of the US in about1894

Marlin! Just a more solid made rifle. Other posters have listed other virtues of the Malin so I will not repeat. I bought a Win 30-30 just to have one, but never took it hunting. Was an accurate rifle and carried well, but I did not like it as well as my Marlin. Finally sold it to a guy looking for a first rifle for his boy. I have a Marlin RC straight stock in 30-30 that has killed ever deer I pulled the trigger on. Also have Marlin CB II in 44 mag, Marlin CB in 45-70 and Marlin 17vs. Four Marlins, zero other lever actions. But, it is like cars, if you have had good results from a certain make, you will like that brand. I like Chevy trucks bacause I have always had good service from them. Might have liked Fords, if I had started with them.

The Winchester is significantly lighter than the Marlin, and the newer ones have "Angle Eject" so a scope can be mounted on top.

When lugging the rifle around and when maintaining a steady aim for a long period, lighter is better!

Also, you might note that the Winchester 94 is now made by Browning. Whatever you may say about outsourcing, firearms should be function first. I hate that the 94 is made in Japan, but I have a Japanese Browning bolt action 308 Medallion that will hit quarter after quarter at 200 yards. So - darn it, these guys do it pretty well. My Browning made 94 30-30 is very accurate at 100 yards.

I had a Marlin 45/70 SS for a while. That was a very accurate and well built gun as well. It was heavy, though, and kicked pretty hard :)
