Hello all,

I am new to this forum. I'm 42 and have been shooting since I was 5. My son is 11 and I started him out at the age of 5 also. My wife, son and myself belong to a rifle club in Colorado. We are all avid shooters. I would rather shoot firearms than anything else. I have been reading this forum for the past couple of weeks and I really like the topics discussed.

Last year for x-mas I bought my son a Ruger 77 Mark II all weather stainless in 7mm Rem. He will be going on his first elk hunt with me in the fall. Colorado allows big game hunting at 12. I got skunked last year elk hunting so I purchased an elk from a private elk ranch. I let my son shoot it to get over that first time buck fever. He shot a spike bull at 150 yards with a borrowed 270 Win. Dropped it with a single clean shot. This was 2 days after his 11th birthday. He now has the hunting fever.

Anyway, I reload 90% of the ammo I shoot. I have had most of my loads worked up for years. Now I'm working on my sons 7mm Rem for elk. I started him off with 139 Grain Hornady SST's with 53 Grains of H4350 for practice and getting used to the new gun. He has 200 rounds of that under his belt. The final elk hunting load I work up will be using the 154 Grain Hornady Interbond bullet. Dont know which powder yet. Has anybody used the 154 Grain Interbond in the 7mm Rem?. My son at the age of 10 shot my neighbors 7mm RUM one day at the range. He put 10 rounds through it. He is not afraid to shoot anything in rifle. He loves all my handguns except the Ruger 44 Mag Super Blackhawk.

Sorry for the long post, but look forward to getting a lot of good information off this forum.

Hi,
I just wanted to say welcome to the forum. I have been a member for several years now. I visit other forums from time to time but this one is #1 for me. There is a lot of knowledge represented here and the forum is well managed. I visit here at least 5 times a week and I have never been disappointed with it. There are a good bunch of guys that hang out here. Once again welcome.

rrush,

I owe you an apology and you've hardly got started !! . My old man's eyes looked at your "name" and thought it said "mush". Thought to myself.........well, it wasn't complimentary so we'll skip that part.

Luckily, you'll find a lot of folks with sharper eyes that I'm sure you will enjoy. I know you'll find that the gentleman that sponsors/owns the web sight is special as are the many folks that visit and contribute.

My Wife Shoots with me also. Where a whole family likes to shoot, they can have a lot of fun. Happy Shooting !!!

Welcome - I made the same mistake as DOK, the double rr looks like an m to me too.

To your question - you might look at Retumbo powder for your 7mm, around 70.5 grains for the 154 grain bullet.
