when you are sighting in with a scope, if the gun is shooting left, do you click the scope left to correct pattern? If shooting low do you click scope down so pattern will come up? thanks

The scope will have markings on the turrets which show the direction to bullet stike will move in when you turn it. If it shows an "L" with an arrow then turning it in that direction will move the bullets strike to the left. Take a look at the instructions for the scope if you have them.

Yup, your scope adjustment knobs are marked left and right and up and down, moving the knob left will move the bullet impact left and so forth.
Most local gunshops will put a bore sighter on it for you for a few dollars and that will get you close. Sight in at 25 yards first. That is the place where most bullets cross the line of sight from a scoped gun the first time. That will get you close at a hundred.
To tell the truth I take a cardboard box to the range and cut a notch on each side to hold the gun, then bore sight it at a hundred yards. Just look thru the bore and line it up with the blac bull hundred yard target, once that is done without touching the gun look thru the scope. Use the scope adjustment knobs to move the cross hairs to the same place the bore is looking. (given you have a rifle you can look down the bore) You will see the cross hairs move on the target. Just go back and forth between the picture thru the bore and the scope til both are pointed at the same spot. This is a lot like looking thru a peep sight as your eye will automatically center the target. This works well and doesn't cost anything.
