My wife bought a Glenfield 30-30 this weekend. I planned to pick up the bulk bullets for paper punching. However, looking at Cabelas.com, I found .305s "for 30-30".....

Is this correct?

I know I should slug the barrel (and may tonight) but I thought I could get a history lesson here in the mean time..

Thanks

Nate

That looks like a typo in the Remingtons. Hornadys and Sierras are listed at .308". All my loading manuals spec a .308" bullet for the .30-30.

Shoot jacketed bullets that are .308 and cast that are .309-.311(depending on your bore size of cource!)

I seem to remember that one bullet manufacturer makes .307 dia bullets as tha was the original dia for 30-30.

Could be just a brain fart though...

Stick with .308 for jacketed bullets and .309-10 for cast in the 30/30.

At one time in the past Winchester used to market .307 bullets for the 30-30 they were made that way and stated for 30-30 only. Just an early Lawyer thing I suspect, but they were in 150gn, 170gn and were either flat point or hollow point. The 150gn hps from winchester were really devastating but alas discontinued.

I remember reading something about that as well, I think it was sierra that mics at .307 but I don't have any on hand to check. Maybe someone here can confirm this... or not
