Hey guys, I am looking a doing a trade in which I might be getting a regular length 1895. How hard would it be to swap a shorter 1895GG barrel for the standard length 22'' one. I understand that the barrels are not that much $$ arround 50 or 60 bucks. How much do you think a gunsmith should charge to do this swap? I have also heard that the shorter guide gun barrels are a little more accurate being that since they are shorter the metal is a little stouter. I don't know if thats true or not, just something I heard. Any input or thoughts would be great!

second choice, would I just be better off having the standard length barrel cut and recrowned to 18''? Just a thought.

Marlin will install a brand new 18.5" 45-70 barrel on your 1895 for $140.

It would be cheaper to cut, crown and drill and tap for the front sight on your existing 22" barrel. You could then go 19" or 20" instead, if you choose.
