I have purchased a Lee Minie Bullet mold for my T/C Renegade .54. I'm curious as what to lube the bullets with. I've read about bore butter and the possibility of it fouling out the barrel. What do you folks lube your hand poured minie bullets with?

I use the same Lee liquid alox as on all the pistol bullets I cast. Just swirl them in a cottege cheese container after dribbling on some of the liquid alox. Set them on some wax paper or tin foil and let the dry overnight. I shoot the .54 oversize in my Rem 700 ML. It is very accurate.

When I ordered my molds I made the mistake of not slugging the bore. I got the Lee .530 improved minnie. I cast up a bunch, lubed them and headed for the range. I dropped in a hundred grains of triple seven and dropped in one of those beautiful big minnies. The next thing I heard was it hitting the bottom of the barrel. It never even touched the rifling on the way down.

Now I know the minnies are supposed to be easy to load, but not that easy. The accuracy was crappy. I ordered the .535 oversized and it still loads really easy, but I'm getting 1.5 to 2 inch three shot groups at a hundred with a scope.

I bought this gun for elk hunting but have not got one with it. I know that my buddies 700 ML with this bullet and 150 grains of triple seven dropped a nice 5 point bull in its tracks last year at about 125 yards. He said it was just devistating on deer out to the same distance.

Good luck with your new molds.

So far i know alox is not a good choice in black powder shooting as it is too dry, i have tried it but it did not give me as good result as a very simple recepee i use...

use water bath method

mix 50% beewax and 50% tallow (change the proportion if its not hard enought more beewad for harder more tallox for softer)

i add lavender oil for the smelling, not very important but tallow smells so bad!!!!!!!!

I use a Lee .50 caliber Minie. Being an ignoramus, I dab Bore Butter in the grooves of the bullet with my finger- worked well for quite a few years.

Jack and mr. 13 are both correct if youy using black powder. I use triple seven which does not foul very much. Sorry I neglected that info. Bore butter worked well for me when I was using other than the 777.
