Saw a 1942 Mod 94 Win in .32 Special, some light surface rust, most blue gone, dirty but sharp bore. Gun is about $250, but I don't know if the .32 special is such a good choice.
It would be an occasional hunter and plinker once it's cleaned up.

Around here, the .32 special is about dead, and guns chambered for it sell for less then a similar .30-30.
Ammo is hard to get and about 50% more than .30-30, but it is a neat old rifle.
Any thoughts ?
Problems, problems.

Just bought one and will enjoy it if it ever gets here. Definitely limited in ammo. I would say its a plinker/hunter for handloaders. RCBS makes a good mold, and Speer and Hornady sitll make the jacketed bullets. Mine is a Marlin. They are known for being good cast shooting guns because of their slower twist. That is a good price.

I easily found brass.

In my area (central vermont) a pre-64 model 94 in .32 spcl would bring a slightly higher price versus a "similar" one in 30-30. I searched shops for a few years before I found one and pounced on it when one finally appeared. I chopped the magazine to 2/3rds, installed a Lyman Aperture sight and stocked up on some Federal Classics (170 gr.). I shoot mainly at 50 meters and it shoots nice and tight and is consistant. Out of all the rifles that I own, this one sees the most use and is my preffered rifle during deer season. A new hot blueng job is about $150.00 from some gunsmiths in the area, if you were to do the metal prep work and dis-assembly/re-assembly yourself. Mine had about 98% original blue with no rust or scratches. I did refinish the stock. I think I paid $225.00 for it and that was about 8 years ago. I have dies for loading but have never loaded for it as I use it strictly for hunting and only check it's zero every couple of years-always spot on. I think I have about 5-6 full box's of cartridges in the basement. All in all one of my favorites.
