The Buckmaster series is a nice balance between price and image quality. There is no comparison between it and the Monarch in terms of image quality, but on the higher power scopes, you definitely pay for the extra clarity.

I was considering buying that exact same scope for my new (used) 223. When I went to the local sporting goods store, they only had two Varmint scopes. A $300+ Sightron that looked absolutely terrible even before factoring in the price, and an el cheapo Barska 6-24X Mildot for $70. It really didn't look too bad. Not very bright on higher powers, and the image quality around the edges was terrible. But, I figured on a 223 with light recoil, in full daylight for prairie dogs and paper, and no real chance of getting rained on, I'd give it a shot. I'm sure I would be more satisfied with another nice Nikon, but maybe later. At this point, I'm a little strapped for cash after already paying for my Summer Tuition and Fall Tuition coming due shortly. I mean, I would rather be able to shoot my new rifle, rather than just look through the scope and admire the view:) I've already got some Monarch Optics that I can do that with.

So, what rifle are you putting that on?

Sounds like you'll have a pretty nice setup there. A very versatile one for varmints and deer with that 25 cal. You'll have to let us know how it turns out.
