I found this on CNN's Web site:
http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/06/17/peta.arrests.ap/index.html
It seems PETA's involvement with euthenization is ongoing. Evidently, the "Ethical Treatement of Animals" includes dumping them in trash bins...

Couldn't happen to a more deserving organization!!!

Hey - saw in the local paper today where PETA has purchased a block of stock in Tazer so they can protest at the next shareholder's meeting, the using of animals to test the devices on. Guess they'd rather the guns be tested on humans.

Tazer should ask PETA for volunteers from their organization and then the whole world can see how dedicated (or not) they are to animal welfare.

PETA Kills Animals -- And It's A Felony
June 17, 2005
Authorities in Ahoskie, North Carolina dropped a disturbing bombshell yesterday with the news that they had charged two employees of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) with 31 felony counts of animal cruelty. PETA's Andrew Cook and Adria Hinkle were arrested late Wednesday night after police saw them dump bags containing seven dead puppies and 11 other dead animals in a grocery store's dumpster. Their PETA-owned van, seized by police, contained another 13 animal bodies. Ahoskie's police chief told reporters: "We've been investigating animal cruelty and illegal disposal of dead animals within our city for the last four weeks" -- roughly the same period of time in which our popular PetaKillsAnimals.com website and giant Times Square billboard have been making news.
Responding to our website, PETA has claimed that most of the animals it kills are "broken beings" and that: "[W]e refer every healthy, cute, young animal we can to shelters." But the dead animals included a female cat and -- according to a local veterinarian -- her two "very adoptable" kittens. "These were just kittens we were trying to find homes for," he told PETA's hometown Virginian-Pilot. "PETA said they would do that, but these cats never made it out of the county."
The animal-control officer responsible for the county where Cook and Hinkle were arrested told the Associated Press that PETA had picked up the animals just a few hours earlier. He added that PETA's employees "told him they were picking up the dogs to take them back to Norfolk where they would find them good homes."
Instead, the animals wound up being treated in a decidedly unethical fashion. This morning the Roanoke-Chowan News-Herald began distributing a grisly photograph showing a police detective in hazmat garb removing a puppy carcass from a garbage bag found in the now-infamous dumpster.
Last night WAVY-TV's coverage in Norfolk included heartbreaking details from the manager of the supermarket whose dumpster became an impromptu pet cemetery. "They just slung the doors [open] and started throwing dogs ... beautiful cats. I saw a [dead] beagle last week that was pregnant ... last week it was 23 or 24 dogs ... it's happened to us nine times ... they drove straight from there, straight here, and disposed of the dogs in 30 seconds."
Authorities told WNCT-TV in Greenville, NC that they've discovered more than 70 dead animals in the last month that may be connected to PETA. WKTR-TV reported today that Cook and Hinkle are out on bond, "thanks to the President of the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals."
In a story that eerily resembles the current charges facing PETA's employees, the Associated Press reported on April 8 that an additional 150 euthanized dogs were found in rural Virginia, apparently dumped in trash bags near a riverbank. The Scott County, Virginia Sheriff is investigating.

This yanks my chain to no end...
I don't care who they are. PETA or your "average joe" out popping varmints "just beacause they are varmints and need to be disposed of". If you are not acting responsibly for the safe, ethical and responsible disposal of the animal and being honest about why, how and where you are doing it then you're either a moron or a criminal and most likely both.
This isn't about shooting feral dog packs on your own land or thinning the herd of cats on your land. If the former owners themselves had been responsible and acted that way, then their animals would have been neutered and taken care of. Not dumped when they were pregnant or had a litter that they couldn't or wouldn't find homes for because they were too lazy.
PETA talks about being ethical to the point of it being part of their name. Well, the ethical stand would be to abandon these two criminals to the law and let them take what is coming to them. Also to find out if anyone else knew and condoned the killing and dumping of these animals picked up dishonestly at the shelter. Everyone involved should be held responsible.
If PETA, who is adamantly opposed to hunting behaves this way, then why should I go to the lengths I do to adhere to fair chase principles? Probably because I was taught that honor and ethics are important. I wonder what sort of ethics these criminals were taught by their parents? I hope their parents are embarrassed.

I wonder how the animals were killed. And, what's their motive?

I guess their "Ethical Treatment" only applies to wild animals, like deer that would overpopulate and starve if we didn't thin them out. Maybe state conservation programs need to be instituted, since hunters have such a good track records. Especially when compared to hypocrites like PETA folk!

Cover Story
PETA is an Animal's Worst Friend
by Nathan Tabor,
Thursday, June 23, 2005
What? Yes, you read the title right. PETA is the worst friend an animal could have these days. Normally an organization takes its mission statement and tries to fulfill it. Not PETA.
In their 25th year fighting for the rights of all animals "PETA believes that animals have rights and deserve to have their best interests taken into consideration, regardless of whether they are useful to humans. Like you, they are capable of suffering and have an interest in leading their own lives; therefore, they are not ours to use–for food, clothing, entertainment, experimentation, or any other reason."
Back to reality and what PETA really does. PETA doesn’t stand for the "ethical treatment of animals." According to the Center for Consumer Freedom, in 2003 alone PETA killed over 85% of the dogs, cats, puppies and kittens it took into its care. During the same time the Norfolk SPCA and Virginia Beach SPCA adopted out 73% and 66% of its animals respectfully. A nearly opposite turnover.
Is it a money issue? No. PETA takes in millions of dollars each year, over 29 million in 2004. However, instead of actually caring about animals their agenda is much different. There mission statement should state "Radical Animal Killers spending millions on teaching children to be vegetarians, telling milk drinkers they are Nazis (Durbin wants to be their spokesman), promoting a meatless Thanksgiving, defending violent extremists and killing helpless animals."
Just this last week two PETA employees picked up 31 healthy dogs and cats and killed them in the back of a van. That is terrible, but it gets worse. They had no respect for these animals. They took their bodies and dumped them in a strip mall dumpster. They now face 31 felony charges.
What would PETA have done if hunters had picked up 31 healthy dogs and cats and killed them for fun? PETA would boycott their work places, picket outside their church and plaster this story all over the media. Guess what though? At least one of the employees still has their job, which means this is a common practice at PETA. I wonder how many other animals have been slaughtered and dumped by PETA?
PETA should be ashamed of its hypocrisy!
The problem here is simple. If you don’t respect life then you don’t have a conscious. The majority of people who belong to PETA will fight for animal’s rights and then turn around and support the killing of unborn humans. If you truly care about life then you should protect both human life and animal life.
The Center for Consumer Freedom has created PetaKillsAnimals.com and recently bought a billboard in Times Square to educate people on the evils of PETA. It is truly a shame that animal loving people have been conned by the unethical directors of PETA.
If you have contributed to PETA contact them and ask for a refund. If you haven’t contributed to PETA, don’t. Your local SPCA will do a much better job. Contact PETA at info@peta.org and let them know you don’t agree with their slaughtering of animals and lying to their donors.
Today PETA stands for People for the Execution of Tame Animals. Tomorrow PETA stands People for the Eating of Tasty Animals.

The chickens come home to roost.... thanks, Ray! This should be front-page headlines in every newspaper in the country, to expose them for the con artists that they truly are.....
